I participated in a debate over on MyPara about these apps. First there is Ghost Radar on iPhone. I've seen one of my friends use this. I think it's silly and bogus. Second, there is EMF Detector on Droid. I've seen another friend use this one. I must say it appears to work, but I would like to compare its results to a real EMF meter.
Anyone else familiar with these? What do you think? How can these little apps rewire the components inside the phones to turn them into something they are not? I can't turn my toaster into a coffee maker.

The following picture is a newer and more user friendly version of the application that I witnessed, but its still basically the same.
There is something called Ghost Detector which looks very much like Ghost Radar. Ghost Detector is definitely a just-for-fun app. The one you have pictured above is an earlier version of Ghost Radar, the word "touch" at the bottom of the screen is a word that the newer version would speak. There is a pay version which is similar with a bit less of a toy-like feel to it.
It is difficult to take any of these seriously with all the crap that is available. It is my opinion that we need to be careful what we discredit as being silly when we spend so much of our time collecting evidence by means that can EASILY be discredited.

There are many apps out there that utilize the sensors in cell phones. One in particular is called Ulysse Gizmo; it includes a magnetometer which can help isolate the source of magnetic fields.

If you happen to be a fan of Star Trek, look for something called Tricorder.
