  I have just purchased my own P-SB7 ghost box from ITC Research. I have watched my friends use it many times, and also seen it used on television. I was surprised to learn that potential EVPs are to be found in the static or white noise between the radio stations - not from the snipets heard from the radio stations themselves. I think this is where everyone is goofing up. I was on the fence about these things because we are lead to believe the radio stations are where the EVPs are coming from. Not so, I am told. So now that I finally have my own, I will be using it the "right" way.

  I wouldn't say we were using them "wrong" so much as we were greatly limited by the equipment at hand. I haven't read up...what does the PSB7 do to limit the snippets? I know some boxes scan faster and are generally considered more desirable as the snippets become unrecognizable.
  
  I have learned that the only way to listen to a ghost box is by recording it. You may get a little "live" but the really good stuff (that is harder to ignore due to context) comes from review.

  Wes, this model allows you to change the speed at which it scans. A wonderful feature I think. I can also set it to scan in reverse.

  And you are absolutely correct on the second part.

  I have been tempted to buy but I have not heard any results so far that leave me suspecting what I hear is paranormal. Perhaps I have become jaded with all the seemingly ridiculous results presented on TV.
  
  Our group has a custom design box which requires contact with a living body for use as an antenna. It is interesting how the results vary with different people touching it.

  Well, I can tell you that we recorded a name on one session that was later PLAINLY caught as a disembodied voice...so the things do work SOMETIMES at the very least.

  I am wondering if it would be worth the effort to convert a mutilband shortwave/longwave receiver for use as a ghostbox. Seems there would be "more" white noise through which to communicate.

  Would "we" have done it by now? Maybe, maybe not. Yes, someone has probably messed with different RF band receivers but only AM/FM is in "popular" use by paranormal investigators. There is a lot of traffic on AM/FM that I suspect is often misinterpreted as paranormal; even if it seems to be within the noise.
  
  This world is so crammed full of RF/electromagnetic noise (man-made and natural) it is difficult for me to take such evidence too seriously. Non-the-less, I am not the least opposed to experimentation even if it has been tried before.

  Just saying it sounds like a great idea, but us unwashed masses probably wouldn't be much help in deciding whether it was worth the trouble.

  I see Rob's point of view. I think the next improvement on the ghost box should include frequencies outside of AM/FM radio. But I'm afraid the FCC would shoot that idea down immediately.

  Why Phil? We are just monitoring, not broadcasting. If I am not mistaken some of the early, hand made from scratch versions scanned several bands. The only reason we settled on AMFM was that was easier due to the availability of hackable radios.
