  Issues with eavesdropping, Wes. Many institutions don't even like scanners and would have them banned if possible. HAM operators wouldn't like it either because they have to be licensed and think it would be unfair if all of us were using their frequencies, even if we are only listening. I'm telling you its a can of worms, man.

  I have been eavesdropping on SW/LW bands since I was a child. I used my grandfather's radio set until I scraped up the cash for my own. I spent countless nights into the early morning hours just listening to the noises and foreign languages. I wonder now how much that pastime may have influenced my fascination with the paranormal. I wonder how much of what I listened to "could" have been paranormal...or at the very least could help explain what is thought to be paranormal.

  Since SW/LW receivers are almost as readily available as AM/FM. I'm not sure the FCC could do anything about use as ghostboxes; as long as the modification does nothing more than scan received signals.

  Rob, your story sounds like mine when as a child I got an old AM radio from my grandfather. My father explained to me about AM signals getting boosted at night and I would stay up all night scanning the band and marking on a map the different cities I was receiving from and marveled about how far away the cities sometimes were. From Virginia I could hear stations from Boston, Chicago, St Louis, Atlanta. My dad told me that when he lived in New Hampshire he could pick up stations across the Atlantic.
