By "run of the mill EVP" are you are referring to it being that of a marginal quality?
As I understand it, the Trifield is designed to measure high instances or hot spots of electrical, magnetic and radio-microwave transmissions...if you prescribe to the unverified hypothesis that by prolonged exposure to any of these radiant fields one may become afflicted with physiological or psychological melodies that may manifest itself in many ways including cancer and of course the false perception of a "paranormal" experience...in this respect it (may) be useful as a "debunking tool"...
Conversely, when viewed unilaterally as a "ghost detector" as it often is by the ubiquitous new "paranormal teams" we see multiplying exponentially on a daily basis, the reliability and culpability of these gadgets become more and more suspect...
Perhaps in some respects this is where "certifications" may actually be advantageous depending on those offering the classes and the reality of assigning accreditation to any such institutionalized paranormal study, but this continues to be a subject of much controversy ...
I still feel that most of these devices shall inevitably prove to be an more of an impedance to progressive investigative endeavors than anything else, but I suppose I will have to concede that those that are judiciously testing them in the field (as you evidently are) will be the ones that will ultimately answer these questions when simple speculation fails.
