  I have a SONY with an IR light attached. Very nice; however, it's to my understanding SONY is discontinuing these cameras?

  I've tried looking around at all these newer Sony camcorders with the night shot mode built in, and none of them really say anything about it. I wonder whats going on with that. Do you know if the Sony's have a special mounting shoe? I've looked at some Sony IR lights online and they say they are only compatible with certain models. It would be very much like Sony to make their mounting shoe proprietary.

  You can find some niceSsony mini DVR recorders with IR mode on e bay for prity cheep.

  The camcorder I was looking into is the Sony DCR-HC52 MiniDV Handycam.. It's got night shot and infared and it seems to do pretty well judging by the test shots someone posted up on YouTube when they got one.. I've only been able to find it on eBay though ever since Target discontinued it. Still thinking about getting one when I get the extra cash unless I find another one I like =]

  check out http://www.moditronic.com/index.htm they have rather cheap infrared and full spectrum hd camcorders. You get something like 12hrs of record time with a 32gb sd card

  I've noticed that Sony isn't including it on all of their new models...but even the ones that do treat it with a yawn in the spec sheets. I'm not too worried as they will be available on Ebay for years to come. I've bought several and to be honest, my favorites are some of the older models anyway.

  Plus, I aways use a supplemental IR with its own power source so that the camera battery lasts longer

  From what i heard about sony and this night shot is that when your clothes are wet and at the right angle you could see through someones clothes with the night mode on sounds funny but it is true. all of the perverts messed it up for all of us! So there ya go no more night shot! now they just offer close to 0lux which i have tried a lot of them and they are not that good even with a good illuminator nothing like the old night shot modes... so the best bet is to stock up on a couple mini dvs ...

  oh sorry i forgot they only offer this night mode on there high end models now so i guess they think the pervs got no money..
