In my opinion, religion tends to want to apply a name or label to a source of faith while spiritualism is faith in a connection to all things regardless of religion. I do not believe religion and spiritualism go hand in hand; a person can have one without the other.
My family did not "promote" any religion. My Grandfather's influence leaned toward Presbyterian. I briefly studied Zen Buddhism. My marriage is Lutheran. I find truths in all religions/faiths but also disappointment in their frequent exclusivity and elitism. I find I am best described as a Disassociated Quasi-Omnist.
I do not urge or instruct my children where to place their faith. I only say to place it where it feels right and from where they can draw strength.
