Well...here it is...2012.
By some estimates we all have less than a year to live. Fortunately, other estimates are a bit more generous and predict that all of the doomsday prophesies are wrong and that this year is destined to start a new age of spiritual enlightenment. Most of us expect the truth to fall somewhere in between.
One popular theory dealing with the end of the Mayan calendar basically says that they got bored with it and moved on to other pursuits. After all, if one were to chisel out a calendar that detailed the rest of eternity, wouldn't that have required a really, really big pyramid? Personally - with my attention span - I suspect I would have ended civilization as we know it about 10 years from the beginning of the calendar...quicker if my chisel were dull.
Someone pointed out to me that it is impossible for the world to end because Marty McFly traveled from 1985 to 2015 in Back To The Future Part 2. That means that we have at least 3 more years left.
Let's make the most of them!
